Cape Coral Quilters' Guild
Cape Coral, Florida
Making the Honor Quilts
How to get started
If you would like to make one of these special quilts for a deserving Veteran, follow these steps:
1. Notify the Honor Quilt Committee Chair, Melinda Jablonski. She will guide you with any and all of the next steps below.
-
She is available each Monday at the Guild's Open Sew
-
cellphone: 413-374-6242
2. Select a pattern either from the list below or from the many printed patterns from Melinda, or one of your own.
-
Size Parameters - The size of these Honor Quilts should be approximately 55 x 65 and no larger than 60 x 80.
-
If you have a quilt pattern larger than 60 x 80 you will need to adjust the pattern.
3. Select your fabric from our stash of fabric and panels or use your own.
4. Once your pieced top is finished, it's required to be longarm quilted. You can either quilt it yourself or Melinda will direct you to one of the several members with longarm quilting machines willing to do this at no charge to you.
5. Bind the quilt - Hand sewn binding is preferable to machine binding.
6. Quilt label & turn-over - Once the quilt is complete, you will turn it over to Melinda. She will have a label embroidered and sewn onto the quilt. She stores the completed quilts until the presentation.
Available patterns for consideration
You can use any appropriate patriotic pattern to make an Honor Quilt. However, the patterns listed below may be a starting point. The patterns range in style and skill level.
Remember, the guild has appropriate patriotic fabric and panels for this purpose. However, you can purchase some or all of the fabric if you prefer or use fabric you already have in your stash.
